Postal Operations Assistant

**Duties**:
- Process incoming and outgoing mail to include delivery, sorting, weighing, and metering mail.
- Operate the customer service window for package delivery.
- Respond to customer inquiries concerning undeliverable, forwarded, or returned to sender mail.
- Sell postage and money orders to customers.
- Process official mail to include documenting, transferring, and safeguarding.

- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Secret clearance is required.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Employee must complete the Postal Service Center (PSC) training module with-in six (6) months of employment.
- Annual leave will not normally be granted for the period of 1 November to 15 January except for emergencies.
- Employee is required to work weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
- Employee is held accountable for monetary imbalances when performing postal finance duties.
- Employee must pass a pre-appointment physical examination and meet established requirements of lifting incoming shipments weighing up to 70lbs.
- Employee must be able to obtain/maintain a military motor vehicle operator's license.
- This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
- Employee must complete Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) handling and processing training prior to handling the mail.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.

**Who May Apply: US Citizens**Specialized Experience Needed for the GS-5**:One year of specialized experience which included operating a customer service window/desk which includes operating a cash register. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).**OR**
**Education**:Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.**OR**

**Combination of Education and Experience**:Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and some education above the high school level but less than required above. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). - If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
