**Das sind wir**:
The Steffen lab within the department of Medical Clinic 3 is investigating new pathobiological processes that determine the course of inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Our research focuses on the importance of autoimmunity and specific autoantibodies, as well as the interaction of bone and the immune system. We are particularly interested in the influence of specific glycosylation patterns of antibodies or tissue proteins and their corresponding receptors as well as the regulation of bone homeostasis.

Die Aufgaben

We are looking for a scientific PhD student to study the mechanisms behind cortical bone remodeling and how this affects age-, disease
- and medication-related frailty fractures. Bone remodeling is mediated by a concerted action of osteoblasts, osteoclasts and osteocytes. Cortical bone stability is important to prevent fractures. The aim of this study is to discover how cortical bone remodeling is controlled and what happens if the remodeling process is disturbed.

- 3D and high resolution imaging (light sheet, confocal and electron microscopy)
- animal models of osteoporosis
- single cell transcriptomic analysis

Master in immunology, biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine or equivalent
Practical experience in microscopy and molecular biological methods such as PCR, immunofluorescence staining, ELISA or flow cytometry
High motivation and ability for interdisciplinary and collaborative work
