What wedo:

As part of the Trading &Origination department, the Origination Southwest Europe teamconcludes non-standard, structured and often complex transactionsin wholesale energy markets in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy.Thereby, it cooperates closely with Statkraft’s trading desks andthe other regional Origination teams to offer pan-European tailoredenergy solutions. The responsibilities within Origination SouthwestEurope are divided into Origination Iberia, OriginationFrance/Italy and Portfolio Management. While the Origination teamsfocus on originating, structuring and negotiating value enhancingnew transactions, the Portfolio Management provides the analysis,structuring and pricing platform to all non-standard commoditycontracts and manages the entire portfolio exposure in the marketacross the curve until delivery. Thereby, Origination and PortfolioManagement closely collaborate on a “one team – one PnL”philosophy.

The portfolio currently consists oftailor-made long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) withIPPs/generators and large end customers as well as othernon-standard flexible and structured wholesale products in Iberia.Origination Southwest Europe is planning to further expand in termsof regional and product scope over the nextyears.

Yourrole:

You will be located inDüsseldorf and head the Portfolio Management team of four highlyprofessional and driven FTEs (one to be hired). You will reportdirectly to the VP Origination Southwest Europe and be part of themanagement team. Your activities willinclude:

  • Play a pivotal role in thescaling up of the portfolio of non-standard power andmulti-commodity contracts, including the set-up of state-of-the artportfolio management infrastructure andprocedures
  • Manage, develop and grow a highlyprofessional and talented team of portfolio managers / structurersas well as quantitative and fundamentalanalysts
  • Work closely with the Heads ofOrigination Iberia, France and Italy for new deal origination,structuring and pricing in order to grow and optimize theportfolio
  • Optimize the value of the SouthwestEuropean Origination portfolio in the long-/mid- and short-termmarkets via OTC and screen trading, develop portfolio managementstrategies that help us exploit market opportunities and enhanceportfolio returns within the limits of themandate
  • Develop both quantitative andfundamental views of relevant power markets along the entire curve(including of risks and risk mitigation strategies related tomanaging an intermittent renewable portfolio), liaising closelywith team members and other main stake-holders such as otherorigination teams, traders, risk analysts and both internal andexternal fundamental analysts
  • Build andmaintain strong relationships with midstream/trading companies,brokers and exchanges
  • Constantly improvemodelling tools, portfolio management systems and optimizationapproach
  • Liaise closely with risk department /middle office on PnL and riskreporting

Yourprofile:

  • Universitydegree in mathematics, economics, engineering orsimilar
  • Minimum 10 years of professional workexperience in energy markets, previous relevant commercial (frontoffice) experience in European powermarkets
  • Management experience and managementskills, ability to lead, develop andmotivate
  • Proven track record in the trading orportfolio management of complex, structured power positions /portfolios, including intermittent renewable powergeneration
  • In depth understanding of Europeanpower markets, power trading and riskmanagement
  • Excellent quantitative andanalytical skills; state-of-the art know-how in pricing ofstructured, non-standard contracts in powermarkets
  • Willingness to occasional travel andexternal market exposure
  • Strong commercialmind-set and high level of initiative andmotivation
  • Reliable team player with excellentcommunication skills in English; Spanish, Italian or French wouldbe an advantage
  • Flexible, accurate and capableof further developing thebusiness
