- You will be part of the Prices and Costs Division in the Directorate General Economics. Our division monitors, analyses and assesses inflationary pressures in the euro area. The Division provides input for internal decisionmaking processes and external communications on the inflation outlook and the potential risks, including those deriving from cyclical and structural analysis, the external and domestic environment, wage and profit developments and projected expectations. We work closely with briefing and forecast coordination units and with colleagues in other divisions on analysing and forecasting the different dimensions of the euro area economy. In light of the ongoing high inflationary pressures, we are currently working on decomposing supply and demand driven inflation, measuring wage and energy sensitive prices, interpreting underlying inflation dynamics and estimating wage and price Phillips curves.
In your role as Senior Economist, you will be part of a team of around 20 experts in forecasting, modelling and assessing inflationary pressures and will work closely with colleagues from across the ECB's business areas, from national central banks across the Eurosystem and their policy institutions and from the academic community.
Your role
- As Senior Economist you will:
- coordinate and contribute to documents, presentations and briefing material for members of the Executive Board, the Governing Council and senior management of the ECB;
- oversee and improve models of inflation based on macro and micro data for forecasting and analysis;
- build relationships with colleagues from other divisions and business areas of the ECB, from national central banks, from other international institutions and from academia;
- guide and contribute to the official publications of the ECB, such as the Economic Bulletin, as well as other publications, presentations and speeches.
We value a track record of diverse relevant experience gained through internal or external mobility and/or positions held prior to working at the ECB.
Qualifications, experience and skills
- Essential:
- in addition to the above, a minimum of seven years' relevant professional experience at the same level as the position to be filled (or the equivalent of a relevant PhD plus three years' professional experience) in the field of economics, inflation or statistical and econometric techniques;
- a track record in preparing analysis or peer-reviewed publications using applied microeconomics or macroeconomics related to inflation;
- very good writing skills and the ability to draft well-structured notes to strict deadlines;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a PhD and a research and publication record, preferably related to inflation or price setting.
