Senior Contract & Commercial Manager (District Heating Projects/Senior QS)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Contract & Commercial Manager (District heating projects/Senior QS) to join the City Energy Construction and Major Projects Management (C&MP) Team.

The Senior Contract/Commercial Manager is responsible for contract and commercial management from the tendering phase through to final accounting across all district heating projects. You will ensure that all projects are accurately budgeted and will support and challenge accurate commercial reporting during project implementation phase. You will also be accountable for contract implementation and contract management both upstream and downstream across all of our projects.

Responsibilities include

Leading a team of estimators and quantity surveyors

Estimating new projects

Contract management of in flight projects

Commercial management and reporting

Liaising with and negotiations with clients and contractors

Influence commercial negotiations with key internal and external stakeholders.

Work with the Head of Construction and Major Projects to deliver the strategies.

Proactively identify, own, and manage the risks associated with key commercial decisions. Engage and inform relevant stakeholders as needed to ensure transparency, awareness and deliver strategies to remedy.

Identify and own new innovative processes that lead to the successful delivery of key projects.

Own and report upon financials, in addition to HSSE matters.

Working with the Finance Business Partner to ensure accurate budgeting for energy companies’ operational costs and forecasting future incomes.

What we need from you

Degree or equivalent experience.

Proven track record for both dispute avoidance and dispute resolution for contractual claims

Ability to construct and deconstruct projects / proposals on a 1st principle basis;

Capable of reviewing engineering / technical drawings and the ability to analyse, interpret, measure and quantify BOQ / QSORs for multiple trade scopes

Demonstrable industry experience as a Commercial Manager (QS/legal background

Experience in District Heating projects from a strategic, decarbonisation, construction, commercial and operational perspective.

Demonstrable commercial and negotiation skills.

Excellent inter-personal, communication, influencing and change management skills, including the ability to challenge processes for continuous improvement.

An understanding of large project finances and reporting on this.

Advanced knowledge of construction type contracts and UK legislation;

An understanding of governments net zero strategy and future legislation.


Desirable

In-depth knowledge of commercial on-site generation technologies such as gas engines, steam boilers, absorption chillers, heat pumps, PV, batteries etc;

In depth knowledge of utility networks (both mechanical and electrical)

Working knowledge of planning tools and software

Familiar with lean tools such as 8D and statistical analysis
