VN 24/17 Spacecraft Simulator Application Software Engineer

Spacecraft Operational Simulators are critical assets within EUMETSAT Ground Segments for the preparations and operations of Earth Observation missions. The Spacecraft Simulator Software Engineer will be part of a dynamic international team responsible for a broad spectrum of Mission Control Applications.

The successful candidate will ensure evolution and maintenance but also support procurements for new missions.

Close collaboration with the Flight Control Teams will offer her/him the enriching experience of seeing the end-use of the systems under her/his responsibility.

This position supports the Copernicus Programme.

Duties

Ensure Software Engineering of both multi-mission kernel and mission-specific Spacecraft Simulator software products, from requirements definition to validation and maintenance;Define, design and maintain the EUMETSAT’s SATSIM System’s reference architecture and promote its adoption within new missions;Management of industrial contracts through SLA and KPI; Identify opportunities for optimisation and promote innovation within the engineering team, by staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, to drive product excellence and cost effective solutions into operation;Contribute to maintaining and developing Spacecraft Simulators and Operations preparation knowledge and skill base within the organisation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Engineering degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. software, electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering).

LANGUAGES

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Duties

Skills and Experience

Knowledge and experience required:

Five years’ experience in the development and maintenance of medium-large scale software systems in a high-availability (24 h/day) environment;Specification, architectural design development and maintenance of Spacecraft Simulators based on ESA/SIMULUS infrastructure;Modern software technologies (e.g. web and cloud, containers and containers orchestration) and optimized software lifecycle management (requirements and design engineering, continuous integration, verification and deployment as well as anomaly handling);Good interpersonal and communications skills, team spirit and service orientation;Strengths in synthesising and presenting complex problems and solutions.

Knowledge and experience in the following areas/systems would be a distinct advantage:

ESA/ESOC OPEN-M frameworkESA/ESOC MICONYS Mission Control System suiteESA/EGS-CC and ESA/EGOS-CC Mission Control System frameworkMission Control System and Mission Planning associated functions.

Employment Conditions

The interviews for this position are currently scheduled for 22th August .

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
