Right now, we're looking for a new colleague to join our Operations Team in the position of Senior Customs Declarant (m/w/d).

As a Senior Customs Declarant (m/w/d), you will be responsible for the accurate and compliant execution of all customs formalities (import, export, transit) for our diverse client base in Germany. You will handle complex declarations, support digitalization initiatives, and act as a key contact for both in- and external customers and German Customs authorities working closely together with our Customs Teams in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and our external brokerage partners.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and execute all types of customs declarations (import, export, transit) for various commodities (apparel, DIY-products, retail, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant customs regulations and internal procedures.
  • Classify goods and manage documentation, including HS codes and origin.
  • Use and support digital customs systems (Dakosy; future: Customaite AI/ML platform).
  • Liaise with German Customs authorities and other government agencies.
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on customs and trade compliance.
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audits as needed.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure team compliance.
  • Mentor and support junior declarants within the team.
Qualifications

What we are looking for:
  • Completed vocational training in Freight Forwarding (Kaufmann/Kauffrau für Spedition und Logistikdienstleistung), or equivalent.
  • Additional customs certifications (e.g., Zollfachwirt, customs specialist) are a strong plus.
  • 5-10 years of hands-on experience in customs clearance (import, export, transit), ideally in a Logistics service provider environment
  • Proven experience with complex declarations and non-fiscal obligations (CITES, Health & Safety, Food & near-food requirements etc.)
  • Sector experience with apparel, DIY-products, or retail commodities is highly valued.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Experience with Dakosy and/or DBH customs systems; experience with digital/AI customs tools (e.g., Customaite) is an advantage.
  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken (mandatory).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Customer-oriented and proactive mindset.
  • Comfortable liaising with customs authorities and clients.
