The Institute for Market Analysis of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, located at Braunschweig is looking for a temporary employee to start on 1 May 2026 and work until 31 August 2028 a Research Assistent agricultural science (w/m/d) Part-time position with 50% of regular working hours (currently 19.5 hours/week) for work on the externally funded project "BioServicES".

The BIOservicES project will generate and provide new knowledge about the ecosystem functions and services associated with soil organisms. New indicators, tools, and incentives are being developed to identify and monitor the most important soil organisms that contribute to the provision of ecosystem services in European land use. Based on this, strategies and management measures can be selected to improve the provision of ecosystem services by important soil organisms in the context of climate change, and investments in soil health can be promoted.

The employment relationship is governed by the TVöD Bund (Federal Collective Agreement for Civil Servants) and, if the collective agreement and personal requirements are met, remuneration is based on pay grade 13 TVöD Bund.

Your responsibilities:
  • Collaboration in establishing a transdisciplinary stakeholder community for co-design, co-creation, and co-learning to promote soil biodiversity, coordinated and guided by the project partners
  • Development of an economic assessment framework for ecosystem services provided by soil and associated with soil organisms, taking into account different land use intensities and biogeographical regions, followed by an economic evaluation
  • Collaboration on the analysis of European, national, and regional policy requirements and incentives to promote soil biodiversity management and investment
  • Co-design and implementation of analyses of policy and economic strategies and programs to improve soil biodiversity- Development of policy recommendations for public and private incentives and policy measures at EU and national level to promote soil biodiversity
  • Carrying out networking activities with other European research projects within the framework of relevant Horizon Europe missions and partnerships
  • Preparing scientific publications, project reports, and policy briefs
Your profile:
  • completed university degree in agricultural sciences (M.Sc./ Univ.-Dipl.) or related fields of study, as well as a doctorate
  • Experience in transdisciplinary research projects and co-creative approaches
  • Experience in coordinating research projects and multi-stakeholder networks
  • Knowledge of the interrelationships between soil biodiversity, ecosystem services, and the corresponding economic and political assessment and funding opportunities
