Finance and Accounting Specialist

The Finance & Accounting Specialist will be a member of the Europe Finance and Operations team and provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services to the Europe Region of The Nature Conservancy. They provide accounting, financial and operational support to help advance the Europe Region. Responsibilities range from Contracts, accounting, budgeting and reporting assistance. They are service-oriented, have strong organizational and systems skills, and possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A positive attitude is essential.

This position is a fixed-term appointment for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. Location for the position is Berlin, Germany.

What You'll Do

• Provide expert support in financial management, reporting, and accounting for the Europe Region.
• Manage private awards and oversee all financial information, including processing internal financial forms.
• Ensure compliance with local laws, organizational policies, and best practices in financial management.
• Partner with the Manager of Finance & Operations Europe to: Develop annual budgets and prepare forecasts. Monitor financial data and produce month-end reports and analyses. Prepare journal entries and process invoice payments.
• Review monthly accounting reports, monitor key asset and liability balances, and provide strategic financial recommendations.
• Collaborate with external accounting firms in Germany, Switzerland, and the UK to prepare annual financial statements and reconcile local books with organizational records.
• Support staff with finance-related queries and resolve moderately complex issues.

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
• Experience using automated accounting systems.

• Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
• Excellent German and English language skills, both written and spoken, are required
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• May require working knowledge of grants accounting

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of Euro per year.
