ABOUT LEGACY LANDSCAPES FUND
Legacy Landscape Fund (LLF) was established in late 2020 as an independent charitable foundation under German law. Its financial resources stem from public and private sources: the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), and several philanthropic and corporate partners.
LLF provides long-term to permanent core funding for the management of high biodiversity protected areas (legacy landscapes) to international NGOs and Indigenous Peoples and local community-led organizations in partner countries of the Global South. This funding is provided through LLF's grant program, which offers $1 million USD annually per site to support area-based conservation under one of two models: "Sustaining Grants" which guarantee funding for 15 years and "Perpetual Grants" which offer funding for 50+ years
LLF's financing of globally significant landscapes and ecosystems is directly contributing to the 30x30 global conservation goal and the Global Biodiversity Framework. We ensure a significant contribution to the conservation of global biological diversity through an innovative long-term, and programmatic granting approach.
THE ROLE
Based in Berlin, you will lead, coordinate, and support LLF's program implementation, drawing on your practical expertise in conservation planning and program management in the Global South. As a member of LLF's management board, you will play an active role in shaping strategic decisions and systematically contribute to meetings of the Supervisory Board. The position is partially remote, with in office days from Tuesday to Thursday and requires occasional international travel. The working language is English.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as key account for donor reporting and donor updates.
Serve as key account for due diligence in program implementation, as well as questions related to LLF's requirements in grantee budgeting, procurement, reporting, and general implementation in close coordination with the program team
Lead the strategic development and continuous improvement of LLF's requirements and processes for implementing partners, ensuring alignment with donor compliance standards and best practices
Lead and manage a multi-cultural and highly efficient program team. Identify, plan, and coordinate tasks and workload according to key competencies. Conduct performance reviews and ensure smooth operations within the team
Oversee program implementation in selected LLF landscapes in close cooperation with all relevant stakeholders
Actively contribute to the management board, leading on program implementation, reporting, and conservation-related matters
Participate in Supervisory Board meetings and ensure timely and accurate reporting
Contribute to the learning and sharing vision of LLF
Liaise closely with the public sector donors to ensure alignment with their requirements
Monitor grantee compliance with LLF's reporting requirements and conduct ad hoc plausibility checks
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
All candidates for position must provide evidence of the following:
Master's degree in a relevant field
7 - 10 years of experience in conservation management (including planning, budgeting, procurement, infrastructure, law enforcement, safeguards, livelihoods or community wellbeing, monitoring, and reporting) in an ODA country with increased responsibilities
Proven experience in managing grants, implementing and reporting on public sector donor-funded conservation programs
Demonstrated track-record of at least 5 years of successful team leadership
Previous experience working with boards is an asset
Strong knowledge and ability to work with computer and software systems; databases, spreadsheets, program management tools, and other relevant software packages
Excellent English and Spanish language skills are mandatory
Experience working in an international NGO
Experience and diplomacy in dealing with a variety of stakeholders, different cultural contexts, and various hierarchical levels
ABOUT YOU
You are passionate about area-based conservation in the Global South and bring 7-10 years of practical local experience. You are an energetic, team-oriented, self-starting individual who can think strategically, express ideas, and is detail-oriented and process-minded. You enjoy working in an international organization that is young and continually evolving. You bring at least 3-5 years of experience in leading multicultural teams, and you are not only a fair delegator, but happy to work hands-on within your team. You might have experience in working in management boards or with supervisory boards.
You are comfortable working in a small organization and without a large support system. You are ambitious, creative, helpful, and have a good sense of humour. You are an experienced moderator of different points of view, can stay calm in stressful and time-pressed situations and can make your point heard in a constructive manner. You have professional written and spoken fluency in English and Spanish. French, German, or Portuguese are an asset, but are not mandatory. You can travel internationally.
