Technical Lead – Substation Design/Grid Integration

AECOM's Energy business has entered an exciting period of growth within Germany. As such, we are looking for a subject matter expert who is capable of being our Technical Lead in Germany for Substation Design and Grid integration/modernisation projects. 

This role relates to the primary plant design for energy infrastructure, grid integration, and private networks at varying voltage levels (up-to 400KV). Typical projects include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design, and design assurance on existing or new substations and other infrastructure. You'll also have the opportunity to grow your career by directly contributing to the growth of our German Energy business.

Here's what you'll do:

• Take ownership for substation technical discussions with the client and internal multi-disciplinary teams to establish scopes, define interfacing and ensure delivery.
• Take ownership of technical delivery with engineering teams by agreeing approach, supporting scope understanding, monitoring progress and quality checking
• Developing specifications or detailed designs for substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear.
• Utilise knowledge of substation project/asset life cycle from a design perspective to successfully deliver client projects. 
• Design Primary plant layouts for substations
• Equipment specifications for HV Plant and associated equipment
• Owners' Engineer role on HV substation/grid integration design projects.
• Build client relationships, understanding client requirements and perspectives, building trust and adopting a client orientated project delivery mindset.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness to carry out proposal development, monitor/manage project costs and enable opportunity identification.
• Support the growth of the regional business and technical capabilities.

Here's what we're looking for:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Strong technical expertise in HV/MV/LV electrical systems.
• Understanding of electrical AC HV Plant infrastructure and equipment both AIS and GIS.
• Proven experience in the German energy market, with strong knowledge of local standards, grid codes and regulations to ensure compliance with German and EU requirements.
• Fluency in German and familiarity with local delivery practices are essential.
• Experience as a designer or as project engineer
• Proven experience delivering complex energy projects within the German energy sector.
• Experience designing electrical infrastructure at concept and FEED and detailed design stages.
• The ability to work flexibly across multiple projects
• Experience in Technical report writing
• Experience with mentorship and growing team capabilities
• Data Centre experience is also highly desirable.
