The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. We are currently seeking a student assistant for our department "Sustainable Synthesis Products" at the earliest possible date. Fraunhofer ISE has been exploring the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) as a raw material for hydrogen (H2) chemical energy storage (known as "Carbon Capturing and Utilization"). CO2 will be captured from the air, biomass, or existing industrial processes (such as steel or cement production) and converted into storable and transportable energy sources and chemicals using sustainably produced H2 in various synthesis processes. In contrast to established fossil-based methods, Power-to-X (PtX) processes have the potential to be sustainable. At Fraunhofer ISE, we evaluate PtX processes using a holistic system approach that includes economic assessments and life cycle assessments to analyze environmental impacts. Your task is to evaluate the applicable regulatory framework and to analyse its impact on the different PtX value chains. Compliance with the regulatory framework is essential for the production and transportation of renewable hydrogen and PtX products.
