Real-world Vehicle Emissions, Associate Researcher

The ICCT seeks a highly motivated and committed Associate Researcher who will contribute to the ICCT’s International Partnerships Program. The Associate Researcher will contribute to ICCT’s work in support of The Real Urban Emissions (TRUE) initiative, which helps cities develop evidenced-based policy measures through the collection, analysis, and reporting of real-world vehicle emissions data. The position would be based in the ICCT’s Berlin office with an initial 2-year contract.

You Will:

- Perform quantitative analyses using real-world vehicle emissions datasets: explore remote sensing data and other sources of motor vehicle exhaust emissions, and run models of fleet emissions scenarios
- Perform high-quality quantitative research to support the development of local, regional, and national policies addressing the climate and health effects of transportation, particularly on-road vehicles
- Review and synthesize technical and scientific literature into policy-relevant documents and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Author and co-author blogs, briefing papers, memos, working papers, and white papers to communicate research findings and policy implications
- Engage with external stakeholders including cities authorities, government officials, non-governmental organizations, academics, and industry
- Support outreach activities, such as briefings, meetings, and workshops
- Other duties as assigned

You Have:

- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in data science, engineering, environmental science or policy, transportation, or a related field
- At least 2 years of work or research experience which may include internships or other positions while pursuing studies
- Excellent quantitative, analytical, research, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated research, education, or work experience in energy, transportation, climate change, air quality, public policy, or other related topics
- Strong data analysis skills, including data cleaning, preprocessing, visualization, and statistical analysis
- Proficiency is required in analytical and modeling with R or Python, and knowledge of other tools such as Matlab, Power BI, and Excel is preferred. Experience in AI and machine learning techniques and knowledge of SQL databases are preferred but not required
- Superior interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal; Knowledge of at least one other language is preferred
- Experience working in teams and in a collaborative research environment

Our Benefits

This full-time (40 hours/week) position will be based in our Berlin office and has a salary of €63,945. We offer an initial 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational resources and performance.
