The Chair for Laser Technology (LLT) at RWTH Aachen University, together with the cooperating Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, is one of Europe’s leading centers for basic and contract research in the field of laser technology. The quantum photonics group at LLT focuses on addressing quantum mechanical challenges through photonic solutions.

Full stack quantum networks promise breakthroughs in secure communication, advanced measurements, and computing. A key challenge in their implementation is the incompatibility of different components due to variations in wavelengths, pulse durations, and encoding schemes. Our project aims to develop photonic quantum interconnects that adapt these properties to establish seamless connectivity between diverse quantum systems over networks and long distances. By tailoring photon wave packets using passive and active optical methods, we enable efficient and coherent manipulation of quantum states. This will unlock the full potential of each component in a quantum network and leverage the strengths of diverse technologies.

**Your Profile**:

- Enrolled in a degree program in physics, electrical engineering, photonics, or a related field (bachelor)
- Interest in quantum technology, photonics, and/or laser physics
- Basic experience in laboratory work and/or numerical simulations is beneficial but not required
- Experience with programming (e.g., Python) is beneficial

**Your Duties and Responsibilities**:
We are looking for a motivated student assistant to support our research project. The work will involve laboratory and/or simulation tasks related to quantum network simulations, high-frequency electronics, nonlinear optics, frequency conversion, and single-photon sources. You will gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge quantum technology and photonics research.

**What We Offer**:
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.
It is intended to extend the contract.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 12 hours.
The amount of monthly work hours can be changed upon agreement.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 13.25 € per hour.
