**Postdoctoral position: Microsensors for cells and organoids (f/m/d)**

The position is funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung (CZS)

**Background**:

- Three-dimensional cell cultures are important to enable realistic cell environments for disease modeling and to analyze cell interactions. This position will address the question of how one can develop mínimally invasive sensing tools to monitor metabolites, oxygen, carbon dioxide, pH, and other parameters. Ideally, the methods can function in parallel and on a large scale. The research is vital to understand key parameters that govern organoid and assembloid formation, will allow ML models to be developed, and will lead to an understanding how particular cellular and environmental parameters drive cell biological responses.
- The position will be embedded within the research groups of Prof. Dr. Peer Fischer and Prof. Dr. Jochen Wittbrodt to combine engineering and biomedical expertise.
- The POEM program aims to generate reproducible, micrometer-scale controllable, and cost-efficient disease models by bringing together experts in physical chemistry, physics, bioengineering, molecular systems engineering, machine learning, biomedicine, and disease modeling. Central to its objectives is the development of methods for monitoring and culturing tailor-made organoids, assembloids and co-organoids for inter-organ communication towards AI-supported large-scale / high-throughput analyses.

**Your Role**:

- Interest in physical, spectroscopic and analytics measurements and associated technologies
- Creative approach to developing and adapting analytical methods for the parallelized monitoring of metabolites and environmental parameters to assess organoid
- and assembloid formation
- Developing microfluidic chips that enable the multi parameter measurements of key molecular and physiological parameters
- An interest in data analysis and AI
- Collaborating with the POEM platform head as well as other postdocs and research groups in the interdisciplinary POEM network
- Integrating the findings into automated cell culture processes and assist with sensing to facilitate the generation, of long-term cultures and analyses of patient-derived or iPSC-derived organoids

**Your Profile**:

- We seek a highly motivated individual with an outstanding scientific background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for organoid research and bioengineering approaches
- Experience with physical and physicochemical measurement science is expected. Knowledge of spectroscopy, microscopy or bioanalytical methods, as well as cell culture and cell biology techniques are beneficial
- Competitive applicants must have obtained an outstanding doctoral degree in disciplines such as physics, chemistry, mechanical or electrical engineering, biotechnology or equivalent fields and a proven record of high-level research, for example through peer-reviewed publications and conference contributions

Please include a motivation letter, curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a list of current research support (if applicable), a summary of teaching experience (if applicable), a research summary, a list with 3 or more referees, including contact information.
