About the Role

Data governance is the formal orchestration of people, process, and technology to enable the organization to leverage data as an enterprise asset; Finance Master Data Management at Harman is a dual role of compliance and enabling business analysis. The Master Data Organization will lead the data steward population to interpret data policies with the goal of establishing clarity and quality in policy enforcement. The Master Data Organization will work with cross functional leaders to establish Master Data Lifecycles to enable high quality analysis, optimizing current data use and archiving legacy structures.

The Director of Master Data Management is a new role that will build a team consisting of both direct and matrixed team members to develop and support sustainable, scalable master data governance/data life cycle. The Director of Master Data Management will be accountable for providing oversight of how data is governed, generated, changed, and archived within Harman. The Director of Master Data Management will be tasked with managing a set of global data standards and processes to ensure accurate data models and structures to enable stakeholders to better analyze data and improve quality of information.

Your Team

The Director of Master Data Management will be working with and guiding 1 direct report and a virtual dotted line team of data stewards. The Director of Master Data will be responsible for working with cross-functional teams and leading Master Data Projects with additional resources brought in.

What You Will Do
- Implement a Master Data Governance Framework to guide and shape the way that data is created, used, and organized within the business. Define key data governance priorities, roadmaps, metrics, policies, processes, and standards.
- Manage the operational process for Data governance while working with the Steering Committee in creating a data policy and work with the IT team in implementing the same at a technical level; this position will be the link between the Steering Committee and the different workstreams across the organization
- Drive operational data quality and integrity with embedded controls, KPIs on governance and compliance; Drive data classification, cataloging and data quality assessment across different systems; Create and Maintain data definitions, data glossary in the appropriate data catalog
- develops, manages, and reports scorecards/metrics/KPIs; addresses sources of data defects in a timely and sustainable manner
- Provides education and clarification on global data standards and expertise for global business users

What You Need
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Information Technology, or related field and 8 years' experience in accounting, finance
- 5 years of experience with Master Data Governance for financial data.
- Experience working with SAP is required
- Experience working with business process, system, and data flow modeling/mapping
- Excellent attention to detail and strong project management, interpersonal, organization, communication (both verbal and written), and problem-solving skills are required. Individual must be flexible and capable of prioritizing projects, meeting deadlines, and working well under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex problems or processes that span multiple business areas.
- High attention to detail when performing analysis
- Capable of communicating and collaborating with key business stakeholders in a professional and timely manner
- Deep understanding of database technology, integration, and usage
- Strong analytical skills, detailed and process-oriented
- Ability to create and report on data metrics using a visual representation

- 12+ years of professional experience demonstrating success leading master data management programs in a global organization
- 5 years of experience with SAP Master Data Governance for financial data.
- Deep knowledge of MDM concepts, benefits, best practices, and challenges
- Knowledge of end-to-end business processes in similar business environment, e.g., Demand/Supply Planning, Inventory Management, Contract Manufacturing, Logistics and Order Management
- Strong understanding of ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, PowerPivot, etc.), advanced SQL, and advanced master data management background
