The impact you will make
As part of the experimental team, you will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments related to laser-plasma interactions & nuclear fusion using multi-Petawatt, ultrahigh contrast lasers. You will devise innovative experimental setups and design diagnostics for collecting high-quality data at repetition rates of up to 1 Hz. You will employ advanced data analysis techniques, including machine learning and Bayesian analysis to extract meaningful insights from experimental data, providing crucial information for validating theoretical models and driving the development of our novel fusion concept. With your in-depth knowledge and expertise in this field, you will lead investigations into the fundamental physics governing the interaction between high-intensity lasers and plasma, the associated particle acceleration dynamics, and ultimately fusion processes. Your expertise will enable us to advance the experimental realization of our fusion approach and investigate its scaling with multiple laser beams. Your contributions will significantly impact the development of our cutting-edge technology.

**More specifically, you will**:
Design and execute experiments to investigate laser-plasma interactions & fusion processes, including selecting appropriate laser parameters, targets, and diagnostic tools.

Develop and optimize laser-fusion diagnostic setups, ensuring reliable and accurate measurements with high repetition rate.

Develop a framework for fast data analysis integrating heterogeneous data from multiple sources.

What you bring

Ph.D. in Physics or a related field (Postdoctoral research experience or equivalent breadth and depth of experience is a plus)

Proven experience in designing and conducting experiments related to high-power, ns-to-fs laser-plasma interactions, including a deep understanding of laser-driven inertial confinement fusion, (fusion) diagnostic development, and operating high-intensity, short-pulse laser systems.

Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, ideally including machine learning and Bayesian data analysis to extract meaningful insights.

Recognition as a resource and high-impact contributor as evidenced by conference presentations and publications in refereed journals.

Willingness to travel internationally for several weeks to participate in experiment campaigns in Europe and the U.S.
