**SOS Humanity is a civil, donation-funded search and rescue organisation in the central Mediterranean. Founded 2015 in Berlin, the organisation has rescued more than 36.000 people from distress at sea and from drowning to date. **Fleet and Operations Coordinator (M/F/d) **(full time / 40 hours/week)**:
**Your role**:
SOS Humanity is seeking a dedicated fleet and operations coordinator to join our operational coordination team. In this crucial role, you will manage and continuously develop our operational department and activities, ensuring the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of our search and rescue operations. Your expertise in technical and shipping matters will be essential in optimizing our impact and adds to the expertise of your coordinating team colleagues of search and rescue, care and protection and communications.

**Your tasks**:

- **Daily Operations Coordination**
You plan, organize, and coordinate the daily operations of the rescue vessel(s) and search and rescue activities, working closely with vessel management staff and other operational coordinators. By ensuring adherence to schedules and deadlines for shipping and rescue and by overseeing and managing the rescue operations globally in shifts together with the Search and Rescue coordinator, you ensure efficiency and effectiveness of SOS Humanity’s operations. By overseeing budgets for the operational and ships department you support Logistics and Head of Operation to ensure responsible financial management.
- **Technical Advice and Coordination**:
As the expert for technical ship and operational matters within the organization you are the main point of contact for external technical ship management companies and partners. You provide technical advice to vessel staff and shore team members. To keep knowledge and overview about the status of the fleet, you conduct and supervise regular onboard ship inspections during port calls. Together with the DPA and TSI of the ship management company and the crew you plan, coordinate, and oversee shipyard and maintenance periods. As expert for shipping and ship management you are additionally responsible to ensure strict adherence to all relevant laws and regulations of shipping as well as organizational policies.
- **Process Management and Operational Cooperation**
To constantly improve safety and efficiency of SOS Humanity’s operation you develop, specify, and maintain processes and standards for rescue and ship operations, ensuring continuous improvement and best practices.
To assure smooth workflows you manage communication with the shipping company for technical management, head of operations at SOS Humanity, other SAR NGOs, and operational areas, providing regular updates and reports.

**Your qualifications**:

- **Educational background**: technical and/or nautical education and professional experience in ship or fleet management, naval engineering, or similar fields.
- **Leadership experience**: at least two years in a (technical) leading position or middle management in maritime engineering or shipping.
- **Regulatory knowledge**: In-depth knowledge of shipping regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
- **Civil search and rescue understanding**: strong understanding and identification with the work of civil sea rescue.
- **Innovative Mindset**: ability to improve ongoing processes or propose new suggestions.
- **Adaptability**: capacity to handle rapidly changing situations and work environments.
- **Resilience**: willingness to work with unusual, sometimes stressful work schedules and times
- **Mobility**: willingness to travel and work from different places, including ships.
- **Communication skills**: excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
- **Language proficiency**: fluent in written and spoken English. Proficiency in German and Italian is beneficial.
