for three years on a part-time basis (65 %).

Our research projects focus on the analysis of pathomechanisms in systemic and organ-specific autoimmunity, the defense against infections or the role of the immune system during the progression of tumors. A major goal of our work is to better understand cellular and molecular processes in immune-mediated diseases in order to establish potential novel therapeutic concepts.

In this project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), a new anti-inflammatory compound will be developed and its efficacy shall be tested in cell culture systems as well as in organoids and possibly in established animal models. The endogenous opioid system plays an important role in controlling inflammatory responses, mainly involving the activation of kappa opioid receptors (KOR). In preliminary work and in close collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy/Medical Chemistry, we have generated KOR agonists, which, among other things, inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines in immune cells, but do not penetrate the blood-brain barrier and thus, hardly cause any severe side effects. Now these agonists will be further developed and their anti-inflammatory effects will be investigated on the molecular level (analysis of signal transduction cascades, characterization of receptor-ligand interactions), in vitro (innovative cell culture models, organ cultures and organoids) and possibly in vivo. In addition to modern methods of molecular and cellular biology as well as immunology (e.g., multicolor flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, seahorse analyses), different microscopy techniques as well as functional assays to determine cell migration and cell-cell interaction will be used.

**We expect from you**:

- A university degree (master or equivalent) in molecular biomedicine, pharmacy, pharmacology/toxicology, biology, biotechnology or a comparable field.
- Laboratory experience in immunology, cell or molecular biology.
- Basic knowledge in flow cytometry, in vivo imaging, RNA sequencing or primary immune cell culture would be desirable, as well as knowledge in the analysis of intracellular signaling pathways, the study of receptor-ligand interactions or in modern microscopy techniques.
- Above-average commitment, flexibility and ability to work in a team as well as independently.
- Good knowledge of the German and English language.
