Media and Communications Associate

Context
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Media and Communications Coordinator, and in close collaboration with the relevant Departments in HQ and Regional Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following activities:
Education
- University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Media and Communications Studies, Journalism, Creative Writing, German Philology/German Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with a least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles; or,
- Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
- Working experience in the field of media and communications;
- Experience in media engagement: writing press notes, organizing press briefings, handling press requests, coordinating and compiling background information for journalists
- Demonstrated expertise in producing journalistic content, such as articles, press releases, or human-interest stories, interviews, preferably with published samples.
- Experience with coordinating with teams for preparing textual and multimedia content;
- Familiarity with communications tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and CMS platforms.
- Experience in visual storytelling, including basic graphic design and video editing, is an asset.
- Working knowledge of event planning and promotion is an advantage;
Skills
- Strong communication skills including experience related to media and communication;
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Exceptional writing skills in German and English, with an ability to convey complex topics in a clear and relatable manner;
Languages
- Required: Fluency in English and German (oral and written)
- Desirable: Knowledge of another official IOM language (French, Spanish) is an advantage
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
