Disinformation has become a business. Today’s internet business models reward engagement above all else. These models monetise attention without considering the quality of the content garnering that attention, or the harm that may result. There is a robust and growing community of industry, policy, and civil society advocates pressing for reform of this ecosystem, they all need data to inform their actions.

The Global Disinformation Index was born out of this need for data, specifically the need for transparent, independent neutral disinformation risk ratings across the open web. Thus, GDI was established in 2018 as a not-for-profit entity built on the three pillars of neutrality, independence and transparency.

GDI is seeking applicants for a Communications Associate to join our team. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, curious, and adaptable.

The Communications Associate plays an essential role in ensuring smooth operations of the communications department —and beyond. This role is also pivotal to maintaining an impactful, professional digital presence for the organisation.

The person in this role will be a communicator who:

- Easily adapts for voice and audience while maintaining messaging clarity and brand consistency.
- Understands the importance of storytelling—and is keen to support colleagues to effectively hone this skill.

**Editorial & Special Projects (50%)**:

- Manage report production process for core GDI research projects (e.g., media market reports), internally and externally with designers, translators, consultants and more.
- Collaborate with Communications Lead on cultivating the GDI voice, implementing communications strategies to support the organisation’s mission, and creating bespoke distribution strategies.
- Create and refine communications content, including talking points, news releases, thought leadership pieces, blog posts, backgrounders, social media content, and more.

**Digital Production & Audience Development (25%)**:

- Manage GDI’s social presence and collaborate on broader audience development strategies.
- Produce social cards and additional digital content, templates, etc.

**Press & External Engagement (10%)**:

- Help manage press tracking for the organisation.
- In partnership with various internal stakeholders, draft talking points for speaking/media engagements GDI spokespeople.
- Help coordinate press invitations, interviews, and turnout for GDI events.

**Administrative Support (15%)**:

- Work with Communications Lead, and across teams, to manage Editorial Calendar and ensure internal and external deadlines are met.
- Contribute to impact reporting and other funder deliverables as needed.
- Ensure existing communications materials are kept up to date and contribute to the development of key messaging tailored to target audiences.

**Essential Experience and Qualifications**:

- 3-5 years of experience
- Excellent writing skills with a record of published material (this may include newsletters and personal writing in addition to professional pieces).
- Familiarity with audience development best practices, benchmarking and data tracking.
- Conscientious communicator and ability to coordinate seamlessly across teams.
- Learning and iterative approach to work with eagerness to provide and receive feedback.

**Preferred Experience and Qualifications**:

- Professional fluency in languages other than English.
- Past experience working as part of a remote/virtual team.
- Knowledge of AP style.
- Comfortable working in rapid response or breaking news scenarios.
- Experience using work and relationship management tools such as Asana and Salesforce
- Experience managing concurrent projects across countries and time zones
