Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water and Wastewater Systems Specialist to join our team at U.S. Army Europe and Africa. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for planning, laying out, and operating utility systems, equipment, and apparatus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of utility systems, equipment, and apparatus.
  • Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of trade practices to interpret building plans, area line maps, engineer drawings, and use formulas to determine pipe dimensions, scope, and fall.
  • Perform alterations and enlargements on utility systems in barracks, hospitals, and other structures, including water purification, chlorination, sanitary sewer, storm, and drainage facilities.
  • Hang or lay pipe sections into position, assemble joints, valves, and apparatus, and operate and repair pump/lift stations, rainwater retention systems, oil, grease, and starch separators, vehicles and aircraft wash racks, and fire hydrants.
  • Inspect and test piping systems after completion of alterations and enlargements for proper tightness and safe functioning.
  • Lay glazed or unglazed clay, concrete, or cast iron, PVC, PE, or stainless steel pipes, including connections, fittings, couplings, reducers, elbows, crosses, angles, etc., to form sanitary or storm sewers and drains.
  • Clean waste water systems, gutters, grease traps, starch collectors, mud traps, oil separation systems, storm water retention basins, sewer and storm lift and pumping systems, and drain pipes and gully holes.
  • Regularly inspect sewer and drainage systems, locate stoppages of sewer and drainage mains, and remove same.
Requirements
  • Completed vocational training of at least 30 months in the appropriate trade.
  • 5 years of specialized experience, or 8 years of experience with at least 3 years at a level of difficulty comparable to the Wage Group 5 or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license class C.
  • English Language Proficiency Level A1 and German Language Proficiency Level B1.
Working Conditions

This is a permanent full-time position (38.5 hours/week) with a designated duty station at present Vilseck. The future incumbent may be reassigned to another duty station within the same works council agency and commuting area of his/her present duty station.

Working on weekends and holidays is required. Applicants must be willing and able to perform on-call duty. Heaving and carrying up to 40 lbs is also required.
