Humanities Professor

Campus Within Walls Adjunct Faculty

Southside Virginia Community College is seeking adjunct faculty with Master's level coursework in Humanities (including Art History) for our Campus Within Walls program. This program provides second chances through higher education to incarcerated students, equipping them with the tools to successfully re-enter society and become productive citizens.

• Teach Humanities courses in a correctional setting, utilizing effective teaching strategies in a setting without internet access.
• Design and execute engaging lesson plans, ensuring students meet course deadlines and submit required reporting.
• Interact professionally with staff, students, and internal/external constituencies, adhering to college deadlines and policies.
• Meet minimum qualifications, including a Master's degree in Humanities or a related field, and valid driver's license with a good driving record.

• Master's degree in Humanities (including Art History) or a related field.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Adept knowledge of instructional technologies.
• Excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written English skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with staff, students, and internal/external constituencies.
• Ability to meet college deadlines and submit required reporting.
• Must pass Virginia Department of Corrections background screening.

• Prior working experience in a community college or higher education setting.
• Prior working experience in a correctional center.
• Professional experience with PeopleSoft or similar student registration software.
• Prior working experience with Learning Management Systems, especially Canvas.
• Professional experience with Microsoft Office Suite Software.
