Humanities Professor

Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty member to teach Humanities courses at our Campus Within Walls program. This program provides educational opportunities to incarcerated students, and we are committed to providing quality education to a diverse constituency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach Humanities courses, including Art History, to students in a correctional setting
• Develop and implement effective teaching strategies in a setting without internet access
• Meet college deadlines and submit required reporting, including grades
• Interact with staff, students, and internal and external constituencies in a professional manner
• Design and execute effective teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners

Requirements:

• Master's degree in Humanities (including Art History) or a Master's degree in any teaching field with at least 18 credit hours of postgraduate study in Humanities
• Valid driver's license and good driving record
• Adept knowledge of instructional technologies
• Excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written English skills
• Ability to meet college deadlines and submit required reporting
• Must pass Virginia Department of Corrections background screening

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior working experience in a community college or other higher education setting
• Prior working experience in a correctional center
• Professional experience in PeopleSoft or similar student registration software program
• Prior working experience with Learning Management Systems, especially Canvas
• Professional experience with Microsoft Office Suite Software, in particular, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Working Conditions:

Positions may be available in spring, summer, or fall semester. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and up to 8 credit hours for the summer session. Teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs.
