Doctoral Researchers in Urban Future-Making

We are seeking highly motivated and qualified doctoral researchers to join our research training group at HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU). The successful candidates will be part of an interdisciplinary team investigating the practices of built environment professionals in administration, planning, and civil society responding to urban challenges.
Research FocusThe research training group focuses on the theme of «urban future-making», examining how professionals act in the face of uncertainty to engender transformative change. The group investigates strategies and interventions related to the urban built environment in fields of action where claims for transformative changes are currently most articulated, such as mobility systems, energy provision, and material use.
Key Responsibilities- Conducting a doctoral thesis in your respective discipline within three years, in correspondence to one or more of the research areas
- Contributing to academic research through conference participations and presentations
- Active participation in the joint activities of the training group and assumption of duties within the self-administration and self-organization of the training group
- An above-average master's degree or equivalent in one of the involved disciplines
- A very good command of English is required, as the activities of the training group are conducted mostly in English
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary exchange and willingness to collaborate with others, combined with high-level communication skills
- Experience in the fields of interdisciplinary urban and spatial research
- Professional experience related to the built environment
- Experience in empirical social science research
- A structured and interdisciplinary qualification programme with colloquia and workshops
