Job Title: Helpdesk Technician

Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a skilled Helpdesk Technician to join our team. As a Helpdesk Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical support to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring the smooth operation of our computer systems and networks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide Tier 1 and 2 support to students and staff, troubleshooting technical issues and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Assist with password resets, troubleshooting access problems, and responding to customer/co-worker needs.
  • Receive, work, and follow up on all trouble-tickets designated as helpdesk issues.
  • Document all support requests and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to ensure the successful implementation of large-scale projects and provide support during periods of low staffing.
  • Ensure computers and classroom technology are updated with the latest security patches and software.
  • Prepare IT needs for campus events and provide audiovisual support for presentations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues on the academic network and apply patches and/or upgrades to servers as needed.
  • Support a positive work environment and demonstrate a courteous and professional attitude to students, staff, and the public.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work well with a culturally and educationally diverse population.
  • Working knowledge of major operating systems, software applications, and classroom technology.
  • Knowledge of Computer HelpDesk operations or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Ability to provide daily oversight of tickets and independently troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Ability to set up audiovisual equipment and train users as needed.
  • Ability to accurately document procedures and maintain operations logs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Information Technology or related field.
  • Career Readiness Certificate.
  • Knowledge of Network Topology, TeamViewer, Adobe Admin Console, SCCM, Vmware ESXi 7, Vsphere 7 and above, Zoom, Pharos, Endpoint protection, Jamf, and Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
