Head of Aluminum Alloy Development

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Alloy Development, you will lead a team of 12-15 people, comprising scientists and technical experts, to drive innovation in aluminum alloy solutions with high recycling content. You will work closely with the process optimization team to design specific processes for these alloys and support the expansion of alloy specifications.

You will also be responsible for developing and implementing melt purification techniques to enable the use of dirtier scraps, managing scrap within our production, and advising plants on scrap evaluation and handling to optimize recovery. Additionally, you will provide technical support to the production process, focusing on melting and casting.

Furthermore, you will lead key projects that support business goals, prioritizing projects that deliver the highest value to the company. You will oversee the delivery of high-quality research and ensure that the work has a significant impact on the organization.

As a leader, you will connect scientific work with individual business areas and production at Speira, while coaching and developing the skills of your team.

Requirements
  • A degree in materials and materials science, preferably with a focus on metallic materials, and a PhD is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in management or a leading position, ideally related to alloy development.
  • Ability to develop people, processes, and strategies, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Project management and communication skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with knowledge of statistical data evaluation.
  • Very good knowledge of aluminum metallurgy, including microstructure, alloying additions, and mechanical properties.
  • Knowledge of processing and the process chain of aluminum rolled products, particularly casting and melting processes.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with proficiency in German and English.
