Head of Aluminum Alloy Development

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Alloy Development, you will lead a team of 12-15 people, mainly scientists, and technical experts. Your main goals will be to develop new aluminum alloy solutions with high recycling content, aligning with the process optimization team to design specific processes and support widening alloy specifications.

You will also be responsible for developing and implementing melt purification techniques to allow for the purchase of dirtier scraps, managing scrap within our production, and advising plants on how to evaluate and handle scrap to optimize recovery.

Additionally, you will support the production process with technical advice in melting and casting, develop and support industrialization of technologies that use alternative green energies, and assess project feasibility to ensure alignment with business needs and strategy.

You will lead key projects that support business goals, prioritize to deliver on key projects that support the highest valued delivered to the company, and oversee the delivery of high-quality research that makes the expected impact in the organization.

Connect the scientific work with individual business areas and production at Speira, and coach and help your team develop the skills of the team.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a degree (preferably with a PHD) in the field of materials and materials science, preferably with a focus on metallic materials.

Minimum 3 years of experience in management or leading position ideally related to the topic of alloy development is required.

Ability to develop people, process, and strategies, and communicate depending on the stakeholder is essential.

Project management and communication skills, strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and knowledge of statistical data evaluation are also valued.

Very good knowledge of the metallurgy of aluminum and aluminum alloys, microstructure, alloying additions, and mechanical properties, and link between them is necessary.

Knowledge on processing and the process chain of aluminum rolled products, mainly on casting and melting processes, is also required.

Communicative and motivated, and enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams.

Very good knowledge of German and English rounds off your profile; any other language is advantageous.
