The Amazon EU Design and Construction division is in search of a skilled EU Fire Safety Strategy Lead to facilitate the growth of the Amazon network.
The Fire Safety Strategy Lead will create and oversee a unified approach to fire engineering strategy across the EU nations for Amazon's REI and compliance initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of professional-level fire protection engineering services, including life safety code consulting, sprinkler system design, and performance-based fire engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an individual with substantial experience in warehousing or industrial operations permitting, as well as in fire protection strategy or design.
- Assist in resolving design challenges, which may involve conducting field investigations or inspections, detailed reviews of designs completed by others, or coordinating specific design elements within a project.
- Identify relevant codes and standards to reference when addressing inquiries.
- Conduct analyses of building codes, egress pathways, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, and basic sprinkler systems.
- Define and promote improvements aimed at achieving a standardized fire strategy across Amazon Fulfillment Centers in the EU.
- Perform onsite evaluations of fire strategies in accordance with industry standards during construction, post-construction reviews, and throughout the building's lifecycle.
This role will be based in Germany, with 40% of the time spent traveling domestically or to other EMEA countries.
Key Job Duties:
The Fire Safety Strategy Lead will prepare the following:
- Performance-Based Design outlines
- Review proposed designs
- Provide strategic and tactical guidance on Fire Safety Strategy Implementation
- Evaluate sites in real-time for regulatory compliance
- Conduct Risk Assessments for Operations and critical business partners
- Perform Post-Event Analysis and document Lessons Learned
The primary focus of this role is to deliver a fire safety performance framework for the Amazon building network. This includes extensive interaction with Amazon stakeholders from the initial concept design phase through to delivery and the building's lifecycle.
The position allows for independent work and the provision of expert fire safety opinions in both daily operations and future concept designs across a wide range of countries.
About the Team:The Fire Safety Strategy Team is part of the Global Engineering Services (GES) division at Amazon.
This small, dynamic team alternates between Performance-Based Design and Risk Assessment, legislative guidance, and the development of complex equipment specifications.
As a vital team member, there is significant potential to enhance the safety and experience of Amazon buildings and Associates.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree
- Proven knowledge of EU building regulations and fire codes (NFPA / EU equivalents)
- Demonstrated understanding of fire engineering principles and practices in industrial/logistics facilities
- History of successfully navigating complex permitting processes
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging with technical and institutional stakeholders, both internal and external
- Ability to cultivate trustworthy relationships with private and public partners.
- Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in another EU language is required, with Italian or German preferred.
- Experience in fire engineering within EU countries.
- Experience in fire engineering specifically in Germany or Italy.
- Knowledge of CFD modeling and its applications.
- Familiarity with sprinkler codes, design, and installation.
- On-site experience with Fire Safety Assessments.
- Willingness to travel throughout the EU up to 40% of the time.
- Exceptional ability to anticipate challenges, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a drive for innovation.
- Proficiency in German, French, Polish, Arabic, or Turkish is considered a preferred qualification.
