Senior Consultant - Fund Accounting

Role Overview

As a Senior Consultant in our Fund Accounting team, you will play a key role in ensuring funds are operationally ready and assisting the wider EMEA New Business Team. You will be responsible for rolling out new business for new and existing clients, highlighting the need for and assisting with the development of system enhancements/procedures, and playing a key role in the handover of business to the Fund Accounting business units and any associated training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the technical and subject matter expert on the team, handling fund activity and specific fund requirements, such as transitions, fund launches, and in-specie transfers.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the industry and Northern Trust's systems, infrastructure, and process data flows.
  • Minimise errors in all deliverables at all stages.
  • Demonstrate learning and experience.
  • Attend regular meetings with Divisional Managers, Section Managers, and Team Leaders.
  • Focus on the resolution of complex transitions, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines, and/or processes.
  • Identify and respond to operational risk throughout the business unit.
  • Train fund accountants and supervisors on all aspects of NAV process and any type of reporting.

Requirements

  • Proven understanding of multi-region fund structures in a financial services NAV environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure to achieve multiple daily deadlines for client deliverables, with a mature approach.
  • Knowledge of regulatory regulations pertaining to Mutual Funds, Open-Ended Investment Companies (OEICs), and close-ended funds.
  • Financial instrument knowledge - Traditional asset types, Derivatives, and Private Capital Market Assets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for consulting with the Fund Accounting team and other Internal Departments, Trustees/Depositaries, Custodians, Auditors, and the Fund Management Companies to which a service is provided.
  • Strong communication, first-class presentation, and internal and external client-servicing skills.
  • Hold an accounting, business, or mathematical qualification in university.
  • Being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) of one or multiple activities with at least 8 years of relevant core FA experience.
  • Fluent in English.

IT Skills

  • Excellent desktop, IT, and systems skills.
  • Experience of SunGard Invest One is considered a key advantage.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.

  • Demonstrates excellent analytical, consultative, communication, and judgment skills.
  • Ability to work in a structured pattern, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
