Senior Director, Engineering SCM Tech Procurement Lead

About the Role

The SCM Tech Procurement Alliance is responsible for building and operating the platform that manages the inventory for our fulfillment network. Our systems interact with thousands of suppliers and support the procurement of millions of units of inventory, directly contributing to the physical experience for our customers.

The SCM Tech Procurement Alliance owns and operates back-end systems that integrate with our supplier base, are the single source of truth for suppliers and products, provide a real-time view into our inventory systems, and support the management of inventory for our operations. Our Alliance sits at the nexus of operations data sources and has an exciting mandate to solve business problems at scale with data science.

As a Senior Director of Engineering in the SCM Tech Procurement Alliance, you will lead an organization of 25+ people that builds and manages services and data at scale. We look for leaders who are experts in their domain, champion a compelling vision for their teams, and demonstrate empathetic leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Directors, Associate Directors, and 1 or more Principal or Sr Staff Engineers, ~75 people
  • Drive the development and delivery of complex and scalable SCM systems that meet the needs of the business
  • Establish and maintain team culture, focusing on transparent communication, innovation on behalf of the customer, and empathetic leadership
  • Hire, inspire, manage, and grow cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring every engineer has great growth opportunities
  • Work with product partners and key stakeholders to create a compelling vision for the space
  • Drive continuous improvements in engineering standards, quality, and operational excellence while delivering business value
  • Provide valuable and timely feedback to your team and manage the performance of your organization

Requirements

  • Relevant experience managing engineering managers in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Experience solving complex problems in Supply Chain, Operations, or related fields
  • A strong technical background in managing highly scaled back-end systems, demonstrated in past engineering leadership roles with a clear impact on achieving business goals
  • Strong architectural and data modeling skills and the capacity to design flexible, resilient, and scalable distributed systems
  • Experience in providing technical direction and engineering strategy across multiple teams with a strong execution track record
  • Demonstrable past experience with Agile methodologies, with a focus on data-driven experimentation, lean thinking, and quick iterations
