In-Use Vehicle Emissions Engineer

Role Overview:
This position involves overseeing in-use vehicle Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS) testing operations across the United States, ensuring compliance with both Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) and Volkswagen AG standards.
Key Responsibilities:
PEMS Testing – (~70% of Role)
- Direct PEMS testing initiatives within the United States.
- Manage vehicle acquisition and testing procedures at the Volkswagen Emission Laboratory.
- Establish and refine processes, technical testing protocols, and operational guidelines.
- Analyze PEMS test data and create standardized reporting formats and documentation.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and findings to VWGoA and Volkswagen AG/AUDI AG.
- Assist with additional emissions in-use testing and regulatory tasks as necessary.
- Represent VWGoA in industry technical discussions and forums.
Certification and Regulatory Engagement – (~30% of Role)
- Support local certification testing programs, including vehicle readiness and testing, and conduct root cause analysis for test vehicles.
- Assist in preparation for agency certification and surveillance testing programs.
- Contribute to the VWGoA, VW AG, and AUDI AG Emission Committees.
- Engage in other emissions regulatory activities as required.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in Emissions Engineering.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
- Master's Degree is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication abilities, including interpersonal, presentation, and written skills.
- Proficient in problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Computer literate with a performance-driven mindset.
- Effective influencing and negotiation capabilities.
- Ability to work autonomously with a proactive approach.

Specialized Knowledge Required:
- Expertise in Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS).
- Familiarity with Volkswagen/Audi Powertrain Hardware and Control Systems.
- Background in the automotive industry, particularly regarding US emissions and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD).
- International experience with an understanding of cultural nuances.
- Knowledge of emission measurement methodologies and standards.
- Proficient in application tools such as INCA and Diagra.
- Understanding of vehicle emission regulations and certification processes.
Work Flexibility:
Willingness to travel to various testing locations as needed.
