In-Use Emissions Engineer

Role Overview:
As an integral part of our emissions engineering team, you will oversee in-use vehicle Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS) testing initiatives across the United States. This role involves collaboration with both local and international teams to ensure compliance with emissions regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
PEMS Testing – (~70% of Role)
- Lead and manage PEMS testing operations in the U.S.
- Coordinate vehicle acquisition and testing at the Volkswagen Emission Laboratory.
- Develop and refine processes, technical testing protocols, and operational guidelines.
- Analyze PEMS test data and create standardized reporting formats and documentation.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and findings to stakeholders.
- Assist with additional emissions testing and regulatory obligations as necessary.
- Represent the organization in industry technical discussions and forums.
Certification and Regulatory Support – (~30% of Role)
- Assist in local certification testing programs, including vehicle readiness and compliance assessments.
- Support the emissions committees of Volkswagen and Audi.
- Engage in various regulatory activities as required.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in emissions engineering.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
- Master's Degree is preferred.
Skills:

Specialized Knowledge:
- Familiarity with Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS).
- Understanding of Volkswagen and Audi powertrain hardware and control systems.
- Background in the automotive industry, particularly in U.S. emissions and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD).
- Experience working internationally and awareness of cultural differences.
- Knowledge of emissions measurement methodologies and standards.
- Proficient in application tools such as INCA and Diagra.
- Awareness of vehicle emission standards and certification processes.
Work Flexibility:
Willingness to travel for testing purposes and potential relocation opportunities.
