About the Role

PhD Student (f/m/d) for Analysis of AC/DC Power Systems

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our team at Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG. As a PhD student, you will conduct research and development on advanced power generation and transmission systems.

Your Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and development of new applications and tools for electric power generation, transmission, and control systems.
  • Develop mathematical models in RMS and EMT for various transmission and generation system components (e.g., HVDC, FACTS, Machines) using relevant simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, and PSCAD.
  • Design and develop automation and software tools to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of power system studies.
  • Create innovative AI and ML-based applications and tools for the efficient planning and analyzing electric power systems and controllers.
  • Actively collaborate with internal experts and research institutions to co-innovate and co-create new solutions for emerging challenges in power system generation and transmission.
Requirements
  • Completed master's degree in electrical power engineering with excellent academic record and previous research experience.
  • Strong theoretical and practical background within the fields of power systems and control engineering.
  • Proficient in using one or more of the standard power system simulation programs (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC) and programming languages (e.g., Matlab, Python, Fortran).
  • Experienced in control theory, particularly in control algorithms for electric power systems and power electronics converters.
  • Strong background in machine learning techniques, statistics, and probability.
  • Good communication skills in business; fluent in English, German is a plus.
