We are Vanilla Steel, a Berlin-based startup that has successfully established a leading B2B marketplace for industrial commodity trading in Europe.

The multi-billion-euro metal trading industry is dominated by manual processes such as Excel, PDF, and Email. We aim to transform buying and selling in this traditional industry with seamless and intuitive digital solutions. Our technologies increase liquidity, accelerate transactions, reduce scrapping rates, and enhance buying convenience for hundreds of steel and metal distributors across Europe.

Salary

€90,000 - €110,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Job Description

Visionary Product Leader Needed

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Product Manager to support our data-centric approach to commodities trading through technology and innovation. As a key member of our team, you will co-develop the product vision and roadmap and own product pipelines to ensure we are always shipping and delivering value to users.

This full-time position is based in our vibrant Berlin office, where we believe collaboration and teamwork drive growth and innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Vision: Co-develop a data-centric product vision and roadmap with the leadership team, ensuring alignment with business priorities and customer needs.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and designers to bring the product vision to life, leveraging resources effectively to maximize output.
  • Prioritization: Work with the leadership team to prioritize initiatives and features based on their potential impact on business goals, using both qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Innovation: Embrace a mindset of innovation, comparing third-party integrations with internal software development to enhance product functionality and meet evolving user needs.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Drive the development of rapid prototypes and MVPs in close collaboration with customers and customer-facing teams.
  • Product Ownership: Own product pipelines and maintain a high velocity of product development, informed by a deep understanding of user needs, great product intuition, and rigorous analytics.
  • Performance Metrics: Define and track key performance metrics, analyze product performance, and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Entrepreneurial Drive: Possess an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to think creatively in a dynamic startup environment, recognizing opportunities and adapting strategies as needed.
  • Experience: Proven track record in building world-class products in product-first companies, ideally in B2B marketplaces as a Product Manager. Previous experience as a software developer or product designer is a strong advantage.
  • Product Development: Experience in rapid prototyping, UI/UX design, backlog management, user story formulation, quality assurance, and release planning.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional tech teams while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and performance.
  • Ownership & Autonomy: Strong sense of ownership, autonomy, and a continuous learning mindset.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills in English to make technical concepts understandable to non-technical stakeholders and foster collaboration between teams. A passion for learning and staying updated with current research in technology and AI.
