High-Performance Computing Systems Administrator Opportunity at the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility

The Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) is a leading competence center in the field of high-performance computing, serving the Max Planck Society. Our team is dedicated to developing and optimizing algorithms, applications, and solutions for data-intensive projects in collaboration with scientists from the Max Planck Institutes. We operate state-of-the-art supercomputers, computing systems, a cloud platform, and data repositories, providing a robust infrastructure for data management, including long-term archival.

We are currently looking for a highly skilled Linux System Administrator to join our data division. The chosen candidate will take on a leading role in maintaining and further developing our data services. The ideal candidate will have a degree in an IT-related field and be familiar with modern DevOps procedures, data-driven services, and Linux system administration.

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Good knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Programming and scripting experience (Python, Bash)
  • Creativity for problem-solving under changing conditions
  • Ability to realize concrete solutions
  • Good communication skills (in English and German)

Beneficial skills include:

  • Experience in the administration of self-hosted GitLab instances or similar web-based services
  • Familiarity with automation (Ansible or similar technologies) and virtualization techniques (VMWare, Proxmox)
  • Interest in science and research
