Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) presents a remarkable opportunity for a Senior Underwriter with expertise in Chemical Operations to become a vital part of the German Property division. The ideal candidate will be tasked with the development and underwriting of Energy property business, with a specific focus on Chemical property ventures throughout the designated territory. Responsibilities include pre-qualifying new business, assessing property risk exposures, and making informed underwriting decisions. Furthermore, the role involves profitably expanding and nurturing the portfolio through proactive production and marketing engagements with brokers and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Solicit and underwrite both new and renewal property submissions
- Enhance the chemical property book of business
- Cultivate, develop, and strengthen relationships with brokers and clients, working autonomously as well as collaboratively with other BHSI product lines and the BHSI risk engineering team
- Evaluate reports such as catastrophe modeling, risk engineering assessments, and valuation documentation
- Review and authorize policy terms and conditions
- Operate in a dynamic environment, manage multiple tasks, and make swift decisions while upholding underwriting integrity
- Travel within the assigned territory
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Over 10 years of commercial insurance experience with a strong emphasis on chemical accounts
- Established relationships with brokers and clients
- Exceptional underwriting skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Comprehensive understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts
- Strong collaboration and team-building capabilities
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal abilities
- Willingness to travel as required
- Solid academic background, ideally with a degree in chemical engineering
- Proficiency in both German and English
