Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a seasoned Energy Property Underwriter to join our German Property team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and underwriting Energy property business and specifically Chemical property business across the territory.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Solicit and underwrite new and renewal property submissions for commercial insurance clients.
  • Grow the chemical property book of business through strategic partnerships and marketing efforts.
  • Establish and develop relationships with brokers and customers, working independently and in conjunction with other BHSI product lines and the risk engineering team.
  • Analyze reports such as catastrophe modeling, risk engineering reports, and valuation documentation to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Review and approve policy terms and conditions to ensure compliance with company guidelines.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, multitasking and making quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
  • Travel within the territory to meet with clients and brokers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years of commercial insurance experience with a focus on chemical accounts.
  • Strong existing relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts.
  • Strong collaboration and team building skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including negotiation, communication, and presentation experience.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Sound academic track record, preferably in a field related to chemical engineering.
  • Fluency in German and English.
