Research Opportunity: Innovative Metal Forming Processes for Fuel Cell Components

At Fraunhofer IPT, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to investigate the limitations of current sheet metal forming processes and develop innovative solutions for fuel cell production. As part of this thesis, you will conduct a literature review, derive requirements and optimization goals, and design and manufacture a concept for forming machines and components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a literature review on PEM fuel cells and sheet metal forming processes
  • Determine requirements and optimization goals for innovative forming processes
  • Develop and evaluate design concepts for forming machines and components
  • Design, simulate, and manufacture the chosen concept
  • Assemble and validate the design using our machine park
Requirements:
  • Studying mechanical engineering, computational engineering science, or a comparable subject
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., Solidworks) and FEM simulation
  • Knowledge of fuel cell technology or interest in the topic
  • High degree of initiative, independence, and motivation for interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Good language skills in German or English
