Developing CAx Software for Rotating Laser Powder Bed Processes

At the Fraunhofer IPT, we are pushing the boundaries of digital production. As part of our Laser Systems and Heating Technologies group, you will investigate the current state of CAx planning for laser-based additive manufacturing processes. Your research will focus on developing a digital interface for transferring component data to the machine control system.

Based on your findings, you will program a complete digital process chain from design to CAx planning, data transformation, and successful process execution. You will work on-site in our machine park, surrounded by state-of-the-art equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research CAx chains and digital tools in additive manufacturing
  • Develop a concept for slicing components and coordinate transformation
  • Program scripts to convert CAx data into the required process format
  • Visualize and validate the converted data on the real machine

Requirements:

  • Studying mechanical engineering, CES, or a comparable field
  • Initial knowledge of programming with Python or MatLab
  • Experience with lasers or additive manufacturing processes is a plus
  • Independent work style and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Good language skills in German and/or English
