Resident Advisor, NYU Berlin

New York University is seeking a highly motivated and organized Resident Assistant to join our team in Berlin. As a Resident Assistant, you will play a key role in creating a welcoming and inclusive community for our students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide logistical guidance and emotional support to students, serving as a first point of contact for housing-related issues.
- Communicate housing policies to students and ensure compliance, enforcing disciplinary responses as necessary.
- Assist in resolving roommate and suitemate conflicts, acting as a liaison between facility management, security personnel, and students.
- Organize check-ins, check-outs, and housing orientations, communicating with NYU Berlin staff regarding any housing issues.
- Provide emotional support to students as instructed by NYU Berlin's Wellness Counselor.
- Assist in the organization and supervision of the weekly linen exchange and facilitate fire drills once a semester.
- Provide administrative support to the Student Life staff at the Academic Center, offering regular 'office hours' to students both in person and virtually.
- Submit contributions to the NYU Berlin newsletter and other communication channels.
- Organize regular activities to create a sense of community, including student workshops and weekend events, developing flyers, posters, and brochures.
- Provide organizational support for a wide range of programs, such as volunteering opportunities, clubs, and sports events.
- Accompany students on day trips and 1-2 weekend trips per semester.
- Participate in the on-duty/on-call rotational emergency response and be available to respond to crises during scheduled evenings.
- Know University/community resources and make appropriate referrals.
- Keep supervisors informed about all problems and concerns in the Student Residence.
- Assist with the student conduct process by submitting incident reports.
- Participate in Wellness training seminars and diversity workshops.
- Successful completion of a university degree.
- 1-2 years of work experience, including internships and student worker positions.
- A work permit for Germany valid through December 2025.
- Fluency in German (B2 level or equivalent) and English (C1 level or equivalent).
- Excellent intercultural and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong ability to meaningfully and inclusively engage with members of a diverse student community.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Strong ability to prioritize and multitask as well as to deal with emergencies.
- Strong ability to work in a team as well as to develop ideas independently.
- Service excellence and delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Confident public speaker.
- Study abroad experience (preferably within the context of U.S. universities).
- Work experience in international education.
- Experience in producing and editing texts in English (such as handbooks, newsletters, etc.).
- Genuine interest in getting to know and support very diverse groups of international students.
- Familiarity with IT and social media.
- Ability to organize and deliver events and trips for large groups.
