Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team as a Global Sustainable Finance Expert. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in economics, finance, or a related field, with a focus on sustainable finance. You will be responsible for planning and implementing project activities in partner countries, providing technical and strategic advice to local institutions, and developing knowledge products and training materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement project activities in partner countries, including Brazil, India, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, and Senegal;
  • Provide technical and strategic advice to local institutions, such as central banks, financial regulatory and supervisory authorities, or government ministries, on sustainable finance policies and regulation;
  • Develop knowledge products and training materials for public and private audiences to strengthen awareness and capacity on sustainable finance regulation and policy and effective implementation;
  • Project management activities, including budget planning and monitoring, drafting terms of reference, stakeholder coordination, management of contractors, quality assurance, impact reporting on project activities;
  • Build a strong professional network with internal and external partners at German, European, and international levels;
  • Represent GIZ as a sustainable finance expert in international conferences and workshops;
  • Contribute to the project's strategy, operational planning, impact monitoring, as well as the initiation of new projects and acquisition of project funds;
  • Support the project's public relations work via internal and external channels (website, social media).
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in economics, finance, or a comparable qualification;
  • Several years of work experience in the commercial financial sector, in financial market regulation and supervision, or in academia on financial market regulation and supervision;
  • Several years of work experience with sustainable finance instruments, policy & regulation, or in the area of sustainability risk management (e.g. climate change and biodiversity loss);
  • Several years of experience in project management in an international context, work experience in developing or emerging countries is highly desirable;
  • Experience in advising and delivering training to central banks, financial regulators, and supervisory authorities;
  • Sound knowledge of development cooperation and international good practices in the field of sustainable finance;
  • Confident, persuasive demeanor both in professional circles and towards high-ranking stakeholders;
  • Excellent command of the English language; proficiency in German and further languages at professional level (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic) is considered an asset.
