Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at Universität Hamburg. The successful candidate will develop the theoretical foundation for a novel technique to address the challenge of directly measuring the diffusion of light alkali-metal ions and the accompanying reduction of transition metals within intercalation materials.
About the Role
The Research Associate will be responsible for:
- Developing state-of-the-art electronic structure theory and molecular dynamics simulations to model local atomic environment changes upon Li+ insertion
- Employing x-ray scattering at the transition-metal K-edge to analyze time-dependent x-ray speckle patterns
- Collaborating with experimental groups to design proof-of-principle experiments at x-ray free-electron lasers
- Teaching four hours per week during teaching times in the period from as soon as possible until
About You
We are looking for a candidate with a university degree in a relevant field plus doctorate. The ideal candidate will have:
- Completed their graduate studies (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant field of theoretical physics or theoretical quantum chemistry
- Programming skills and experience in application and development of electronic structure codes
- Knowledge about intercalation materials containing transition metals
- Knowledge about molecular dynamics simulations
- Ideal knowledge of the theory of x-ray-matter interaction and x-ray scattering techniques
- Excellent command in spoken and written English
- Strong team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills
