Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Housekeeping Worker to join our team. As a Housekeeping Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash
  • Strip, seal, wash, and buff floors as assigned
  • Coordinate and assist with setup of equipment and furniture for events or as needed
  • Make periodic rounds of the building and parking lots to ensure safety and security
  • Assist students, staff, faculty, and visitors as needed
  • Assist with evacuation of the building in case of an emergency and assist with getting help for medical and security emergencies
  • May be responsible for distributing campus mail and delivering outgoing mail to the local post office
  • Perform preventive maintenance and monitor mechanical systems during shift and report any problems to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor
  • Lock and unlock all doors before and after students leave and turn on and off all lights and unused equipment

Requirements:

  • Experience in performance of cleaning tasks, floor care, restroom cleaning, and general custodial care
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies and of safety practices as related to the work
  • Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate manual and power equipment
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Ability to read and understand product labels, handling instructions, user manuals, etc.
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions
  • Ability to operate computers and use basic software such as email, time reporting, and work order applications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the proper way to strip, seal, wash, and buff floors
  • Knowledge of basic security
