Job Title: Director of Communications and Assistant Advancement Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Communications and Assistant Advancement Officer to join our team at Southside Virginia Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and communications plans, as well as overseeing the College's public relations activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement marketing and communications plans to promote the College's programs and services
  • Oversee the College's public relations activities, including media relations and crisis communications
  • Manage the College's social media presence and develop content to engage with stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and statewide media outlets
  • Collaborate with the College's leadership team to develop and implement strategic communications plans
  • Manage the College's annual fund strategy and develop plans to grow the number of donors
  • Assist in writing grants to attain funding for the College
  • Represent the College at off-campus events and serve as a liaison to the Virginia Community College System Public Relations and Marketing office

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing and communications, with at least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of marketing and branding concepts, as well as experience in project planning and development
  • Excellent communication, written, and verbal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and evaluate return on investment
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a higher education environment
