We are excited to offer an Internship in Wireless Communications Engineering that provides a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology in the field of mobile networks.

As the demand for next-generation mobile networks continues to grow, the challenges associated with testing signal quality, sensitivity, and dynamic switching performance have become increasingly complex. At NI, we are at the forefront of developing advanced test and measurement hardware and software tailored for the future of 5G and 6G communication systems.

During your internship, you will have the chance to contribute to our product development or research teams, playing a vital role in the success of various projects. We offer a diverse range of assignments, allowing you to select one that aligns with your skills, background, and career aspirations:

Research Assignments

  • Development of prototypes for 6G wireless systems focusing on Machine Learning methodologies.
  • Creation of distributed test and measurement applications utilizing cloud technologies.

Product Development Assignments

  • Development of drivers for our Software Defined Radios (USRPs).
  • Creation of tests for the 3GPP 5G NR mobile radio standard.
  • Development of RF measurement techniques for hardware components.
  • Support for board-level hardware development of RF products.
  • Design of prototype toolflows for augmented reality-supported hardware debugging.
  • HDL design focused on communication or radar applications.

Qualifications Required

Candidates should possess the following:

  • Enrollment in a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Information System Technology, or Computer Science.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C / C++ / C#, .NET, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Fundamental understanding of digital signal processing (e.g., OFDM) or RF engineering principles.
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on experimentation and prototyping.
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Availability for a compulsory internship lasting ideally 6 months.

Additional Qualifications

  • Basic familiarity with Linux and command line interfaces.
  • Experience with Software Defined Radios, UHD, and GNU Radio.
  • Introductory knowledge of Machine Learning.
  • Familiarity with Git version control systems.
  • Practical experience with measurement instruments (e.g., Signal Analyzers, Oscilloscopes).
  • Development experience on FPGA / CPLD platforms.
