The evolution of mobile networks presents complex challenges regarding signal integrity, responsiveness, and seamless switching capabilities. Traditional RF assessments are no longer adequate for evaluating these critical aspects. Therefore, NI is at the forefront of developing advanced testing and measurement solutions tailored for the upcoming 5G and 6G communication systems.

As an intern, you will immerse yourself in one of our dynamic product development or research teams, playing a pivotal role in various projects. You can choose from a diverse array of assignments that align with your expertise, interests, and career goals:

Research Assignments:

  • Designing prototypes for 6G wireless systems, emphasizing Machine Learning methodologies.
  • Creating distributed testing and measurement applications utilizing cloud technologies.

Product Development Assignments:

  • Developing drivers for our Software Defined Radios (USRPs).
  • Creating tests for the 3GPP 5G NR mobile radio standard.
  • Engineering RF measurements for hardware components.
  • Providing board-level hardware development support for RF products.
  • Establishing prototype toolflows for augmented reality-assisted hardware debugging.
  • Engaging in HDL design within the communication or radar domains.

Your Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled (m/f/x) in Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Technology, or Computer Science.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, C, C++, C#, .NET, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Fundamental understanding of digital signal processing (e.g., OFDM) or RF engineering (RF parameters and/or measurements) or client/server and web technologies.
  • Genuine interest in hands-on experimentation and prototyping.
  • Desire to learn and explore new subjects.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Completion of a compulsory internship (ideally lasting 6 months).

Additional Qualifications:

  • Basic familiarity with Linux and command line interfaces.
  • Experience with SDRs, UHD, and GNU Radio.
  • Introductory knowledge of Machine Learning.
  • Familiarity with Git version control.
  • Practical experience with measurement instruments (e.g., Signal Analyzer, Oscilloscope).
  • Experience in developing designs on FPGA/CPLD.
