Research Associate

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher to join our Political Economy of Global Development Lab at the Universität Stuttgart. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of cross-cutting economic topics, including inequality, fairness views, justice, decision-making by individuals or political decision-makers, and economic development.
Our lab uses state-of-the-art quantitative methods, including quasi-experimental and experimental methods, machine learning, and geospatial data analysis. We are looking for a team member who values high-quality research, has a strong drive to develop and advance their own research agenda, and actively participates in our lab activities.
As a researcher in our lab, you will have access to a diverse range of research areas, including economic inequality, concepts of fairness and justice, political economy, and development economics. You will also have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced researchers and to participate in international conferences, workshops, and seminars.

Your Responsibilities- Conduct independent scientific research in the lab's research areas
- Publication of research in high-ranking international peer-reviewed journals
- Presentation of research results at international conferences, workshops, and seminars
- Participation in or independent application for and implementation of third-party funded projects
- Establishment of research collaborations
- Participation in organizing workshops
- Teaching (4 semester hours per week, good German language skills required)
- An outstanding PhD in Economics or a related quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Political Science/Public Policy)
- Excellent knowledge of empirical methods (e.g., applied microeconometrics and/or machine learning) and/or experimental methods (e.g., lab and field experiments and/or survey design)
- Interest in topics in one or more of the following areas: economic inequality, concepts of fairness and justice, political economy, and/or development economics
- Ability to work independently, good organizational skills, and high motivation
- Very good command of English, both written and spoken
- International experience is an advantage
