Research Opportunities

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified researcher to join our team at the University of Zurich. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct high-quality research in computational media and communication.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in computational media and communication, focusing on the development of new methods and tools for analyzing and understanding digital media.
  • Collaborate with our team to design and implement research projects, including data collection, analysis, and visualization.
  • Present research findings at academic conferences and publish in top-tier journals.
  • Teach one class per semester relevant to your research interests in our BA/MA programs.
  • Contribute to the development of our research group's expertise in computational media and communication.

Your Profile

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in communication science, computer science, data science, digital humanities, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have:

Strong programming skills in R and/or Python.A track record of research in computational media and communication.Relevant skills in Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, network analysis, and audio signal processing.Experience or interests in researching visually-rich digital media platforms.Proficiency in English is mandatory for research and publication purposes.

What We Offer

  • Duration: 3-year doctoral position (60%, paid according to cantonal salary scheme). Contract can be extended by an additional 3 years.
  • Research focus: Computational communication research.
  • Start of Employment: Earliest August 1, 2024 or by agreement.
