The Institute of Fluid Dynamics is dedicated to both fundamental and applied research in thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, aiming to enhance the sustainability, energy efficiency, and safety of industrial operations.
We are currently seeking a Scientific Assistant (f/m/d) focused on Innovative Measurement Systems for the Detection and Characterization of Critical Raw Materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a modular platform integrating a magnetic levitation system within a two-phase system laden with rare-earth particles, emphasizing innovations in measurement systems.
- Implement a microelectrode array for electric impedance/resistivity tomography, replacing existing imaging systems, and calibrate it against optical imaging techniques.
- Model the physical chemistry of the two-phase system within the magnetic levitation framework, correlating measurement data with critical parameters for rare-earth separation.
- Acquire knowledge in supervised machine learning to implement and assess AI-driven data processing systems for extracting key parameters.
- Demonstrate the developed system to industrial partners and assist in the technical transfer process, focusing on the commercialization of data and non-exclusive licensing of intellectual property rights.
- Prepare patent drafts and present findings in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Candidate Profile:
- Master's or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with a focus on fluid dynamics, or related fields, with excellent academic performance.
- Strong experimental skills and a methodical approach to planning, executing, analyzing, and documenting experiments.
- Prior experience in electric impedance or resistivity tomography is advantageous.
- Familiarity with fluid dynamics involving particles in a two-phase system is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of magnetism and magnetic materials.
- Experience in PCB design, sensor technology, and signal processing.
- Proficient coding skills in data processing and modeling, with an interest in supervised machine learning.
- Ability to work independently, with strong problem-solving skills and a results-oriented mindset.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB, and familiarity with hardware automation using LabVIEW or Python.
